Hey guys! So, after my neurologist prescribed me Aimovig I’ve been on a journey!
Let me tell you a little history of my migraines for any newbies here. I have lived with Chronic Migraine for over 20 years. I spent 18 years of my life being told by doctors that my headaches were stress related, that certain medications and or birth control couldn’t possibly be making my headaches worse, it was sinus related and or it’s allergies. Stress was the biggest diagnoses and then I was blown off after that. I fired some many trying to figure out why I had so many headaches. I have about 3-4 headaches a week, minimum. I could still function with most of them, so I didn’t think they were migraines. Finally, I found a doctor who believed me at least about the bad ones. He told me I was having a migraine. He prescribed me Imitrex for the migraines and told me to meditate. Considering meditation wasn’t a big thing back when he told me this, that was pretty progressive. Unfortunately, he retired about 2 years after that! So, I began another search for a new doctor.
Fast forward 18 years later, and countless uphill battles, I found a trial study for a new migraine medicine. They called and interviewed me and told me I didn’t qualify for that study because what I described was chronic migraines. I was like, “What!!!!! First off, you, believe me, secondly, I’m chronic? I told my neurologist about it and she didn’t realize that all my headaches were migraines, just varying degrees of pain. Most days I can function with the pain, but I’d developed a high pain tolerance. That being said, it takes a toll on your body. Here I am 48 years old, I keep putting on weight, and by the time I get home from work, I’m exhausted from pretending to others that I was fine and pushing through the pain. My family isn’t getting me at my best, they are usually getting me at my worst. Lastly, I’m not getting enough exercise, because I’m completely depleted of energy by the end of the day.
Back in November, my neurologist prescribed me Aimovig. She filled out some paperwork so that I could get two doses/two month supply for free to try. After I took the first dose I did have less mild migraines. After the second dose, even less mild migraines. I just started making progress and feeling good again, and the insurance company then told me it would not be covered because I hadn’t tried one of three class of drugs. Insurance companies require you to try cheaper preventatives first, which include: Beta-Blockers which are primarily prescribed for blood pressure regulation, SSRI’s which are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors that help with anxiety and depression and Anticonvulsant or Antiepileptic drugs which are used to treat Epilepsy. I had already been on several different SSRI’s over the years. My doctor chose to put me on a Beta-Blocker because they have far less worrisome side effects than the dreaded Topamax.
I was on the Beta-Blocker for a month and a half to give it a fair shot. It didn’t help, and on top of that I had a migraine for 21 days straight. I lost all the progress I had made. I called Amgen and they have an Aimovig Ally Access Card program. I was able to get a few more doses for free thanks to this program. You can get up to 1 year of free Aimovig provided it’s been prescribed to you and your insurance company has denied coverage. Then after your insurance company approves it, you have a low co-pay. I was anxious to get back on it because the longer I feel well, the more I can do! Right?
I’m happy to report that my insurance carrier FINALLY approved my Aimovig and with this discount card I currently only have to pay $5.00. This is a $500.00 a month drug!
I’m still working on getting Botox for Migraines covered. Most of this is due to the fault of the doctor’s office where I got the injections in July of 2018. They STILL have not billed my insurance for it and keep sending me a bill even though I’ve talked with them numerous times about it. If you want to see about the Botox Savings Program please follow the link. Hopefully, I can get pre-approved for Botox and see if this in conjunction with the Aimovig will help significantly reduce my migraines. I’ll keep you posted.

I just wanted to let some readers out there know, that if you have been diagnosed with Chronic Migraine you may qualify for a discount and or reimbursement of a deductible for Botox injections. See this website to see if you qualify! https://www.botoxchronicmigraine.com/botox-coverage-costs
So, I’m nearly 3 months into my Botox shots and I have to say that I’ve seen an improvement with my pain. I still have other migraine symptoms. However, the pain has been much less!
About 3 weeks ago my neurologist was looking at the migraine diary that I’ve been doing with a study for Amgen on Chronic Migraine. I found this out through Migraine.com. Check them out and subscribe for more information! Anyhow, she saw how many migraines I have had in the last two months and decided I was a candidate for Aimovig!
I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork at the neurologist office. They gave me a brief overview of how I would be injecting into myself. I got a letter in the mail about a week later.
So, I’m getting my first two doses for free! A few days after that I received a nice little booklet from the Amgen.
A week later I received a red sharps disposable can. I have to throw out the injectors into this sharps container, and then when it’s full send it back to the company who provided it.
On Saturday I received my first dose of medicine for free. I’ll receive my second dose for free while I’m waiting for my insurance company to pre-approve it. If my insurance doesn’t approve it, I’ve read it’s about $580.00 a dose! I read in the letter that came with my medicine that I could apply for a savings program. Which you can find here if you have been prescribed this medicine! https://www.aimovig.com/sign-up/ .
The medicine needs to be refrigerated. Last night I finally sucked it up and gave myself the injection. I *think* I did it correctly. I hope I did it correctly. I’ve watched some YouTube videos on how to do it and other people’s experience with it. I’ve read that it takes a full 24 hours before it really starts working.
I will keep you posted!
When you work, have chronic migraines and a family to feed, sometimes quick dinners are the solution to all problems. This is a comfort food dinner and it’s super easy to make and you can change it up. It also makes enough for leftovers for the next night or two!
1 4.5 Qt Pyrex Baking Dish
1 Whole Bag of 1.25 LB- Tyson frozen shredded chicken (thawed in fridge while you are at work!)
1 32 Oz can of cream of chicken soup
Cheese, lots of cheese. I use Mild Cheddar and Mozzarella.
About two bags of Stove Top Chicken Flavored Stuffing. (it depends on how much room you have left in the dish.)
1 14.5 Oz of canned carrots
1 stick of butter melted
1 can of Olive Oil Spray
Thaw the chicken in the fridge overnight or while you are at work during the day. Pre-heat the over to 350 degrees. Take the Olive Oil spray and spray the Pyrex dish on the bottom and especially the sides! Dump the thawed (and already-precooked) chicken in the dish. Dump the can of cream of chicken soup in over the chicken. Make sure it’s spread evenly with a spatula. Throw in the canned carrots and spread them around evenly as you can. Then add the cheese of your choice make sure it covers the whole dish. You can use sliced cheese as well. Then pour the stuffing mix over the top and completely cover the top of the dish. You may or may not need some of the second bag. Make sure that you try to spread the seasonings from the stuffing mix evenly over the top. The seasonings tend to settle at the bottom of the bag. After that take the melted butter and pour it evenly over the stuffing. You can always add more butter if you don’t feel it was evenly covered.
Place in the oven for about 30 minutes, until the stuffing is golden brown. If it’s starting to burn you can take it out a bit sooner. Everything was already pre-cooked!
This dish pleases even a very picky eater!
Let me know if you enjoyed it, in the comments section!!!
So, I had Botox for my migraines two months ago and it seems to be helping, in most areas. I had asked my dentist about the botox for grinding my teeth and she said it wouldn’t help, but then I see that it IS supposed to help with jaw clenching, which I do! So, the next time I go, I’m going to ask about getting help with that. I have a dental appliance to help my teeth, but it doesn’t stop me from clenching my jaw. Has anyone else had experience with Botox helping with their jaw clenching? Please let me know!!! Please feel free to leave comments on my comments page!
However, my dog got skunked earlier this week, and quite frankly I’m not sure there was anything that could have prevented that migraine, which I’m still dealing with today on a much smaller scale. I’m able to work. I have had a migraine for 4 days, but my dog still smells! Although you have to get close to him to really smell it. Oy!!! I couldn’t get the smell out of my nose for at least two days. He’s always by my side when I have a migraine, but this was one of those instances where I was like….AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH get away from me!!!!!
So here I am at work today with sunglasses on, praying that what little pain I have will remain little!
Here is my poor dog, after being at the vet! He had to get a vaccine booster. He’s allergic to it, so this is my dog on Benadryl. It was like he was drunk all night. It’s sad and funny at the same time!
I have been working on this book for a couple of years now. Over the last couple of years, my daughter started asking me some really interesting questions, which made me change the book to answer her questions. I believe I’ve written it in a style and using words most kids will be able to understand. I tried to do this without comprising what a migraine really is, an entire disorder with many symptoms. In this book, I’ve written mostly about my personal experiences and symptoms.
This week, I found an editor because it really needs it. However, I have found an illustrator who is currently working on concept art for my book! She’s an up and coming illustrator, editor, producer, and animator, her name is Melina Lescoe from Sweet Potato Productions. I’m really excited to be working with her!

So, today is day 17 of my first Botox experience. I intended to write a day 10 article, but life got in the way. Day 10 is the day when you are supposed to see and feel some results. So, here are my results thus far.
I didn’t realize how much effort I was using to keep my eyes open. I have deep set eyes and as I age, it’s getting harder and harder to see without forcing my eyes open wider. That has gone away! Yay! I’ve had a total of 2 migraines. One right after my treatment, which I expected and another after a long stressful day. HOWEVER, the 2nd one, went away with plain Advil.
My WTF lines in my forehead are barely visible now. That’s cool. Rarely are there “good” side effects when you take a drug! My temples feel more relaxed than ever. I still have the bruise next to my eye. Yesterday I thought I was on the verge of getting a migraine all day. I took some Advil and after a few hours, it didn’t help. I had my Imitrex waiting for me and I was getting ready to take it. The pain was tolerable, but it was slowly increasing, and then it just went away.
So, I’m leaning towards saying that this is helping me so far. I will write another follow-up article to see if my progress continues and what happens when I get the second round of Botox. They said they could give me more if necessary, and I think I do need a little more above my right eye area, which is the area that always hurts the most when I get a migraine.
So, on Tuesday my dentist of all people was able to give me Botox for my migraines. She said that as long as I’ve been diagnosed with migraines my insurance should cover it. I’ve asked my neurologist and she doesn’t do it. I asked my dermatologist and she only does it for cosmetic purposes. I asked the migraine clinic I had been going for a study, but I HAD to become a patient. They are a 45-minute drive from my house on a good day, I wasn’t that impressed with them to begin with, AND they don’t do emergency shots for when I’ve had a migraine for 5 days! Rock (ME) Hard Place.
So, it’s day 3 after the shot. I had a screaming migraine the day after. Luckily Imitrex helped the pain but I was bedridden all day because of the side effects. By the end of day two, my eyes felt so heavy it was exhausting to keep them open. Today, day 3 my right temple feels like it’s being pulled into my ear. I have a bruise by my right eye and all the injection spots still hurt. My face hurts, but right now it’s tolerable.
I was told that it would take 2-10 days for any noticeable difference ie, maybe my WTF lines will be gone! Finally, a side effect I can deal with! LOL! So, I’m going to give it the full 10 days to see. I know many migraine sufferers say it can take several treatments before they notice a difference with their migraines. So, I’ll keep ya posted!
So, I try to follow the Trim Healthy Mama eating plan. I fall off the wagon, but then I try my best to get back on it. What usually throws me off the wagon is lack of energy and my chronic migraine condition. When you don’t feel good, and your stomach is not at it’s best, you tend to eat what sounds good, like Saltine Crackers, or white bread (gasp!).
Recently I was on the Trim Healthy Mama shopping site buying some more of their Super Sweet Blend Packets to go. Which are awesome to keep in your purse, use at work and they also help you measure out how much you are putting in! I saw this Baobab Boost Powder that has a ton of anti-oxidants, more than Blueberries, Acai Berries, and Pomegranates! It’s also supposed to give you more energy! So I was up for anything that might give me more energy!
It’s also supposed to help with blood circulation, blood pressure, and many other things. If you go to the bottom of the Trim Healthy Mama’s website about the Baobab Powder you will find a list of benefits. There are also a few other sites that list the benefits as well.
I’m not a doctor nor do I pretend to be one on the internet or on T.V.!!! All I can tell you is that I’ve been drinking this powder mixed in with Lemons with THM Super Sweet Blend and in my favorite English Breakfast Tea for 30 days. I’ve only had 3 migraines that actually weren’t that bad and that only took a couple of Motrin to help them go away. Now I could be having a really good month, it’s hard to tell. I generally have 10-15 migraines a month. It doesn’t take much to trigger them, a little stress, a change in the weather, certain lighting, smells, barometric pressure changes, altitude changes and the list goes on and on.
Here’s a video from Trim Healthy Mama about it. I’m not an affiliate for them so I don’t make any money from this if you buy it. If you are like me and willing to try just about anything to help you with your migraines, for $13.99 which is a month’s supply it can’t hurt to try it!
I have been the victim of sexual harassment twice in my life. Both times were at a previous job. The first time I was 24 and didn’t know what to do. A female co-worker approached me and asked me if this man was doing the same things to me as he was to her. When I told her yes another woman overheard and said the same things happened to her. We were all in our early twenties and this was our first full time job. A fourth woman overheard us and reported it to my boss. My boss reported it to the CEO and the CFO.
The CEO and CFO brought each of us into their office and I watched the other two women deny anything ever happened and I was stunned. When they asked me what happened, I wasn’t going to lie. I told them exactly what happened. I don’t know where that courage came from, and I certainly didn’t think they were going to believe me, but I told them the truth anyway. They told me they were thankful that one of us was brave enough to step up and say something. They also told us this hadn’t been his first offense. They have a three strikes and you’re out policy. That may change in light of all that is going on right now. I asked the other two women why they lied about what happened and it was because they feared losing their job and they feared they wouldn’t be believed.
Later that day, the man who harassed me actually came up to me and yelled at me for not telling him directly. It’s not like they were teaching young women in high school or college at that time how to handle that type of situation. He told me he could have lost his job because of me. I was shocked that he had the audacity to yell at me and yet I still felt guilty for some reason. He was a 64 year old man who had two daughters my age, and he should have known what he was doing was wrong. I asked him if he would want someone his age doing the things he did to us to his daughter’s and he got very upset and walked away. I am very grateful that the CEO and CFO believed me and took action. It meant a lot to me.
Recently, I got an article published on GrokNation’s site. Please read all about it here!
